Have a free check to see if you are entitled to Pension Credit

Pension Credit is a benefit for people over State Pension age. It tops up your income if you’re struggling to make ends meet.

If you are eligible, Pension Credit will not only top up your income but it will also ‘unlock’ other benefits too.

As you may have seen in the media, from Saturday 1st August 2020 only people who receive Pension Credit will get their TV Licence for free.

According to research by the charity Independent Age, 4 million people are entitled to receive Pension Credit but over a third of these people don’t claim it.

Age UK Salford and Citizens Advice Salford are working together to encourage the uptake of a free Pension Credit check for people living in Salford and of State Pensionable age.

Barbara encourages anyone who thinks they may be eligible for Pension Credit to have this free check.

The free checks come at an especially good time as many people will soon be losing their free TV licence when they may, in fact, be entitled to keep it.

Elaine Kenny, Deputy Chief Officer, Citizens Advice Salford said: “We are able to do a benefit check over the phone and this may mean extra income each week and it can also open the door to other benefits such as free NHS dental treatment, free eye sight tests, travel costs to and from hospital and cold weather payments.”
