Barbara Keeley MP

LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Equal Opportunities for Disabled Workers

Barbara showed her support for equality in training and work opportunities by meeting with Shaw Trust at the recent Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth.

Shaw Trust provides training and employment opportunities for people who are at a disadvantage due to disability, ill health, or social circumstances. By providing accredited training, pre-employment activities and employment services, Shaw Trust aims to provide employment all over the UK.

Barbara works closely with Harriet Harman as Secretary of State for Equality, and employment opportunities for disabled or disadvantaged people is a major aspect of their priorities.

Barbara said:

“Half of disabled people of working age in the UK are unemployed, and the work Shaw Trust do to tackle this problem is very important. By providing access to training as well as work opportunities we can begin to address some of the inequalities faced by disadvantaged people, and partnership between Government and these third sector organisations is a crucial part of tackling this employment inequality.”
