The National Institute for Health Research and the University of Oxford are currently running a PANORAMIC study across Greater Manchester to research potentially ground-breaking antiviral treatments that could prevent hospital admissions from COVID.

The treatments have already been approved by the UK’s medicine regulator and are designed to be taken as pills at home in the early stages of the infection by people who are at higher risk of complications from COVID. The new antivirals should reduce people’s symptoms and individual risk of COVID, thereby reducing pressure on the NHS, so the hope is that they are rolled out as quickly as possible.

To be eligible to participate in the trial you need to:

  • Test positive (lateral flow test) for COVID and be within 5 days of the start of symptoms, and
  • Be aged 50+ or 18-49 and clinically vulnerable.

You can sign up to the trial and find out more information on the website: panoramictrial.org
