LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

International Women's Day marked by Barbara

International Women's Day falls on the 8th March each year and is a day of major celebration of women's achievements worldwide.

Barbara today joined parliamentary colleagues in paying tribute to suffragette leader, Emmeline Pankhurst, to celebrate International Women's Day.

Barbara joined fellow women MPs Tessa Jowell, Meg Munn, and Barbara Follett and Baroness Amos (the first female leader of the House of Lords) at the ceremony.

Together the politicians sang new words about the suffragettes to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic before laying flowers at the statue of Emmeline Pankhurst to remember her great sacrifices for women's right to vote.
