Labour leads the way on combating climate change

Barbara has today welcomed the Government’s tough action on climate change. Ed Miliband MP, Britain’s first Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, has announced that the Climate Change Bill will now include tougher targets to cut harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Barbara said:

"The Climate Change Bill will make us the first country in the world to put carbon reduction targets into law. I was delighted by Ed Miliband’s announcement that our greenhouse gas emissions in 2050 will not be 60 per cent lower than 1990, but 80 per cent lower. This is in keeping with new scientific evidence and the recommendations of the Climate Change Committee.

“Many people living in Worsley constituency have written to me about the issue of climate change, and I’m happy to confirm that I will support this very important Bill and vote for it in the House of Commons. I am proud of the global leadership the Government has shown on climate change.”
