Last Thursday, 23rd February, Labour Party members in Worsley gathered at the Botanical Gardens Club, Atherton, to meet a special guest Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The visit was organised by Barbara Keeley MP in recognition of the hard work that members had put into campaigning at previous elections.
After being delayed in rush-hour traffic, Mr Blair joked that "members had waited a long time for this visit, and been kept waiting a while longer than expected tonight."
Barbara said:
"It was a pleasure to welcome the Prime Minister to Worsley constituency and for members locally to be able to talk to him about their thoughts and about local problems and issues."
As a memento of his visit to Worsley, Mr Blair was presented by Barbara with a signed print of the pit winding gear at Astley Green, painted by local artist Richard Allmark.
