Barbara Keeley MP

Salford College Students Visit Westminster

The students, who are on the National Diploma in Public Services course, travelled down to London with their course tutor Melvin Meggitt for a behind-the-scenes tour of Parliament, followed by a question and answer session with Barbara in one of the Parliamentary committee rooms.

This is the second year running that Barbara has played host to students from Salford College.

Barbara spoke to the students about her role as local MP and explained how Parliament works. The students questioned Barbara on a range of issues, including education, employment, crime, the economy and the role of the media in politics.

Barbara said:

"It was fantastic to be able to host the students' visit to Parliament. They were a bright and engaging group and I thoroughly enjoyed our question and answer session. They were interested in how Parliament works and in major issues which affect us all. They came up with some excellent ideas about how to get young people involved in politics, and in shaping the community around them.”
