Salford families set to lose £10 a week in Housing Benefit under Tory Liberal Democrat Budget

Barbara has highlighted the fact that many families in Salford will lose around £10 a week in Housing Benefit as a result of the Chancellor’s Budget in June.

The analysis of the Budget has been conducted by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and shows that 130,900 families in the North West will lose around £520 a year because of the Government’s changes to Housing Benefit, which are due to come into force In April 2011.

Barbara said:

“A cut of £10 a week, or £520 a year in Housing Benefit, is a real blow to families living on low incomes. I am worried that it will have a big impact on some of the poorest and most vulnerable families in Salford.

“Once again the Conservative-led Government is making ordinary families pick up the cost of the recession while protecting those who are better off.”
