North West StreetGames co-ordinator, John Dwan, was invited recently to a special reception at Number 10 Downing Street, held to celebrate people who make a difference to their local community. Barbara arranged the invitation and attended the event with John.
“StreetGames is making a great contribution to the community in Salford by creating more sport and fitness opportunities for young people living in areas that currently lack those opportunities.
“Besides bringing sport and fitness to our doorsteps, StreetGames now works in partnership with the Co-operative Group to offer thousands of young people the chance to gain skills in community and sports leadership as volunteers. The scheme can help give our young people skills which will help them and they in turn can encourage young people to get involved in sport and fitness.
“I am a great supporter of StreetGames and it is good that the charity’s and John Dwan’s work have been recognised with this invitation to the reception at Downing Street. Cabinet Ministers Hazel Blears, Harriet Harman, Alastair Darling, James Purnell and Jim Murphy, who we met at the reception, were all interested in and impressed with StreetGames and the work they do.”
