Support grows for parents’ campaign to save Irlam and Cadishead Sure Start Centres

Barbara supported a group of local parents with a petition to stop the closure of Sure Start Children’s Centres in Irlam and Cadishead.

Barbara joined parents from the Save our Sure Start campaign who spent hours at the weekend collecting almost 1,000 further signatures for their petition in an Irlam supermarket.

Government cuts of £100 million made to Salford City Council’s budget since 2010 mean that the council is struggling to keep funding for the Sure Start Children’s Centres going in all areas

“Save our Sure Start campaigners like Sue and Tanya are doing a great job getting support from local people for their petition against the cuts to Sure Start. Almost a thousand people signed in one day and many parents and other family members told us how much they valued their local Sure Start Children’s Centres.

I hope there is a way to keep at least one or both of the children’s centres open, as it is quite clear that they are needed and valued by people in Irlam and Cadishead.
