Tax Credit Bombshell could affect thousands of working families across Greater Manchester

Family1Barbara has spoken out for the thousands of families with children in Salford who will lose their Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit from tomorrow.

According to figures revealed by Labour, nearly 3,000 families in Salford and nearly 125,000 families in the North West will lose their Child Tax Credit, worth around £545 a year or Working Tax Credit, worth up to £3,870 per year.

Barbara said that these cuts will hit families hard. The cuts affecting families also mean another broken promise made by David Cameron before the last election.

Barbara said:

“Families are already suffering from  last year's VAT rise which is costing a family with children an average of £450 per year and these cuts will pile on even more misery during difficult times. The Government has got the wrong priorities, giving a big tax cut to those earning over £150,000 at the same time as these cuts hitting families on low and middle incomes.”

“Before the election David Cameron repeatedly promised that only families earning over £50,000 would lose tax credits but these cuts are affecting families on very modest incomes such as £20,000. Hard-working families are now suffering from these broken promises.”
