Barbara has again signalled her disappointment at the decision to close St Georges.
Commenting on a letter she received from the Schools Minister Jim Knight, which congratulated St Georges as one of the best performing schools in the country at Key Stage 3, Barbara praised the school and underlined its importance to people in Worsley.
“I absolutely support the council’s desire to improve educational standards in Salford but, as I have said all along, I do not believe that closing St George’s will help achieve that. The news that St Georges is listed as one of the best performing schools in the Key Stage 3 Achievement Tables is no surprise and only reinforces how important it is to keep the school open.
"St George’s high position in the tables is based on sustained improvement in the number of pupils achieving excellent results at Key Stage 3 since 2003, and this continued progress is testament to the hard work and dedication of the pupils and teachers. It is vital for parents and young people in the area that this improvement is allowed to be extended further, and I will continue campaigning to ensure that it is.”
