The news from the fire in the house in Jackson Street, Walkden was heartbreaking. The loss of three children in the fire was a tragic loss for their family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, their friends and the local community.

Below is the latest update from GM Police on this incident and information about a Vigil to be held at St Mary’s Park on Saturday.

Information from GM Police

The sad and tragic news of the events in the early hours of the 11th December 2017 at Jackson Street, Walkden has touched the hearts and minds of the local community of Walkden and Little Hulton.

Salford Police and the partner agencies are devastated by the events and are thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims.

It is tragic news that three victims have been confirmed as deceased.  Details of their identity will be released in due course.  Two of the victims remain in a critical condition at hospital.

We are aware that the media have published the names of those who they believe are the victims and suspects.  However, you will appreciate that it is important that the release of the identity of those involved is done through the correct and proper procedure.  A further update with this regards is anticipated within the next 24 hours.

We can confirm that Greater Manchester Police have now arrested six suspects in relation to the incident.  The investigation is continuing at a pace.  Further updates will be released in due course.

Whilst this is believed to be a targeted incident there will be dedicated patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the local community.

 St John’s Church, Algernon Road, Walkden have opened a book of condolences.  They have also opened their doors to the community in order to bring them together at this tragic and sad time.  The church will be open again tomorrow 13th December 2017 @ 12:00 -; 14:30 hours.

Information on Facebook suggests that there will be a vigil held at St Mary’s Park, Walkden on Saturday 16thDecember 2017 at approx. 18:00 hours.  Details of the organiser are not known at this stage.
