Barbara will be joining Women Against State Pension Inequality’ (WASPI) campaigners in Eccles on Saturday to raise awareness of their campaign.

WASPI campaigns against changes to the State Pension Age imposed on women born in the 1950s.

Barbara will be joining the campaigners at 12pm at Morrisons supermarket in Eccles where they will be handing out information about their online petition.

Barbara said:

“I am supporting WASPI’s campaign as I believe that women born in the 1950s and affected by changes to the State Pension Age have been treated badly by the Government.

I am disturbed at the way the Government has imposed changes which may add 4-5 years to the working lives of these women, with little or no notification. Many are now facing financial hardship.

When the Conservative-led Government accelerated the timetable for changes to the State Pension age for women, they discussed transitional protection for those affected but this has never materialised.

I have a number of constituents affected by this change and I believe there are around 700,000 women affected across the country. I have promised to campaign with them and to work with other MPs to try to get them some kind of transitional protection, which I believe they are entitled to.”
