Barbara has paid tribute to her constituent Alan Henning in the House of Commons. She also asked the Prime Minister to support an application for a national honour to be made posthumously to Alan in recognition of the noble sacrifice he made in travelling to deliver aid to children in need in Syria.

Writing to 10 Downing Street, Barbara outlined a suggestion to nominate Alan Henning for a national honour, such as the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery. She also asked the Prime Minister to look at ways to help support Barbara Henning and the two children, Adam and Lucy.

Barbara raised the issue in Prime Ministers Questions. David Cameron agreed that Alan Henning was a hero and said he would to look carefully into Barbara’s suggestions.

Barbara Keeley said:

“Alan Henning was brutally murdered by the self-styled Islamic State. In Eccles we have lost a local hero who ignored his own safety to take aid to children in need in Syria.”

“People from across the country have told me they believe Alan Henning’s noble sacrifice should be recognised by a national honour and by support for his widow and children.

“I have asked the Prime Minister if he supports those ideas and what can be done to progress them. I hope that the Prime Minister will support an application to award Alan Henning a national honour so that Alan’s compassion and bravery can be acknowledged across the country.”
