Barbara attended a parliamentary event held by the Carers Trust which celebrated and recognised the challenges that Young Carers face in schools.

In the photo with Barbara are young carers Blake and Izzy who spoke to Barbara about their own personal experiences of caring for a family member and how it has impacted on their childhood.

Barbara says:

Support for young carers is very important to me, so I was pleased to attend a Carers Trust event for young carers in Westminster this week. I met young carers Blake and Izzy who are supported by a young carers group in Suffolk.

“Listening to Blake, who is 10 years old, , he told me that he has been bullied at school for some time. This makes his role as a young carer more difficult. I also heard how young carers need emotional support.

“Is is disappointing that Ofsted have left young carers out as a named group in their 2019 draft framework and I have promised to raise this with Ofsted and with the Schools Minister, Nick Gibb. I also pledged to speak out about bullying of young carers.
