As part of the Parliamentary Covid-19 Memorial Quilt project, Barbara has paid tribute to key workers from across Worsley and Eccles South who have lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. Barbara’s embroidered panels thank all key workers in Worsley and Eccles South for their work over the past year. They will also remember Margaret Gunshorn and Jane Rowbotham, two of key workers in Worsley and Eccles South who have died from COVID over the past year.

Margaret Gunshorn had worked as a Student Development Officer at Harrop Fold School in Little Hulton for 17 years. Students she had helped during those years paid tribute to her after her death from Covid-19. She is loved and missed by her husband and family.

Jane Rowbotham was the manager of Pemberton Fold Care Home. Jane had worked for CIC since 2018 and faced the challenges of protecting the residents at Pemberton Care Home during the Covid pandemic. Jane is missed greatly by her family and by her many colleagues in Salford.

The patches remembering Margaret and Jane are embroidered with their names and their favourite flowers, which are daisies for Margaret and daffodils for Jane.

The Parliamentary Covid-19 Memorial Quilt project is bringing together MPs from across Parliament to thank key workers and remember those who have lost their lives to the Covid-19 pandemic through a series of patches. The project is supported by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle.

Barbara said:

“Key workers like Margaret and Jane have gone above and beyond during the pandemic to keep us safe and save lives, at the cost of their own health. I’m glad to have been able to remember and honour their contribution through this project.

“As we move on from the pandemic, it’s important that we don’t forget the sacrifices made by our key workers. Projects like this Memorial Quilt are crucial to ensure that the tragic deaths we have seen over the last year are remembered and that we pay tribute to all our key workers.”

Barbara was given help and advice by local resident Sue Campayne, and artist Naomi Clarke who is assembling the final quilt.
