Barbara has welcomed the decision made by the Communities Secretary to dismiss a planning appeal against the development of 600 houses on land to the north and south of Worsley Road and land at Aviary Field in Worsley. This upholds Salford Council’s original decision to refuse planning permission to build on the land known as the Greenway, a mixture of woods, meadows and open land.

Barbara spoke out against the appeal at the Planning Inquiry in June. She has campaigned alongside local people against the proposals to develop the Broadoak area for housing and called for the green open land to be protected.

At the Inquiry there was strong opposition against the development from Barbara, Salford Council and local residents.

Barbara said:

“I am delighted by this decision to uphold Salford Council’s refusal to grant planning permission for 600 homes at Broadoak.

“Salford councillors voted against the original application and a large number of people locally objected to the proposed development. I am glad that the Communities Secretary listened to concerns raised by me, residents and local councillors at the Inquiry and upheld the decision to refuse planning permission to develop the land at Broadoak. This is a great victory for local people.”

“This land is part of the Worsley Greenway, an historically important area of green open space which is of great value to local people. Developing this land with such a large number of houses would have had a negative impact on the quality of life of people in this area.”
